About the Embry-Riddle Chapter of the Ninety-Nines

A group of ERAU 99's at the Melbourne Airmarking

Our chapter of the Ninety-Nines started with humble beginnings back in 1980. We were founded on the three main principles of the international organization: to PROMOTE world fellowship through flight, PROVIDE networking opportunities for women and aviation education in the community, and PRESERVE the unique history of women in aviation. Since then we have become a force in the Embry-Riddle community, and reached gold wing status just last year.

Being a collegiate chapter of the Ninety-Nines, a majority of our members that join have the intention of becoming airline, military, or corporate pilots. Being entirely student run, the Executive Board gears all our activities towards helping our members reach their goals.

This involves having fundraisers that build towards sponsoring members for the Women in Aviation and Ninety-Nines International Conferences. Some of these fundraisers include our Chocolate Airplane Sale during Valentine's Day, our annual Thanksgiving Pie Sale, and numerous bake sales.

To help with the numerous scholarships available to young women pilots, we have recently created the position of Scholarship Chair. This person is responsible for accumulating and presenting current scholarships available to our members. They also help with the application requirements and recommendations. The more involved an individual is with the organization, the better our Chair can help them with this process.

We are also big on peer mentoring. Flying can be challenging, and no one knows this better than someone who's been there. Because of this, we have Atta-Girl!'s. These are awards given to a 99 who recently had an achievement with her flying (passed a written, stage check, first solo, etc).

To help build fellowship, our Social Chair is responsible for organizing social events. This position was created last semester. Since then our Social Chair has done an amazing job, which is especially testament in the success of last years Christmas Party, our very first End of the Year Banquet last semester, our numerous BBQ/Beach Outings, and this year's Halloween Party at April's! We also participate in ERAU's Annual Homecoming, where we have danced the night away, fell down the rabbit hole, and flew off to Never Never Land. Pictures of these events can be found under our Pictures and Media Section.

Each semester we try to go to several aviation-related events in the community. These include Sun-n-Fun in Lakeland and numerous Air Jams. We also had a personal Meet-and-Greet with Patty Wagstaff, where we got an exclusive meeting with her and her gorgeous new cirrus. We also stay true to our Ninety-Nines heritage. In collaboration with the Spaceport Chapter of the Ninety-Nines, we have participated in five airmarkings ( Sebastian, Spruce Creek, Deland, New Smyrna, and Melbourne).

Each semester our chapter of the Ninety-Nines grows larger and stronger. If you are a female pilot at ERAU you are more than welcome to join us! We have meetings every Tuesday at 7pm in COA254. These meetings alternate between General and Exec Meetings. Keep an eye out in the school's P&P News for our General Meetings.
